The Holidays

Well it is that time of year again where everyone is getting ready to spend time with family. I love this time of year. My grandmother is coming up to visit for Thanksgiving, and I am "thankful" that she can come.
I am always sad that the people of this country have forgotten about "Thanks"giving. It is like as soon as Halloween is over it is time for Christmas, time for spending all of our money and wishing for what we want. Dont get me wrong, I love Christmas, but I think that Thanksgiving is one of the most important Holidays that we celebrate. When we realize that we are blessed with what we already have, then we have the ability to enjoy Christmas without being all up tight about what we do or dont get.
When I was growing up, my mother taught us all to be thankful, whenever we were in a bad mood, or wanted more than we could handle, she would say "Lets play the thankful game!" Which meant that we all had to go around in a circle and say what we were thankful for, and we would play that until our hearts had changed. I will always thank her for this, because it has taught me how to be blessed with what I have. So many people have lost that.
One more thing is that Thanksgiving has always re-reminded me that "it is not about me" in the least! It never has been, and never will be, it is about Christ, and Christ alone. His relationship with us is just a blessing, because He is good.
So, as you celebrate Thanksgiving with loved ones (yes, they are those whom you love) remember to be thankful for what you have, and know that you have been given the privilege to know Christ, which is the biggest blessing of all.

It is a wonderful insight to think of our unimaginable gift of the Love of Christ on Thanksgiving. Many times we think of family, turkey, and shopping, but not enough about God's Love.
